Based on the venerable British Pattern 58 webbing, the South African Pattern 70 webbing was used during several regional conflicts in the horn of Africa, including the Rhodesian Bush War and the South African Border War. It is easy to see why this is the case, as Pat 70 was a modular, breathable system ideally suited to the climate and landscape of Southern Africa.

Featuring rock-hard canvas construction and magazine pouches attached to every possible surface, Pattern 70 Grootsaak was designed for "bad days." The system is optimized for durability and reliability from the canvas material to the redundant, heavy stitching and chunky, metal D-rings.

The Pattern 70 Grootsaak is a spacious, stand alonepack, which size comparable to the US M1945 pack . It features a top flap covering a buttonable closure on the main pouch of the grootsaak. Additionally it features two double FAL magazine pouches on either side of the pack body along with several excess webbing loops for attaching additional equipment.

Pattern 70 patrol pack review

Ive 3 rigs set up with detachable small packs one of which is this one. The other two are a small Alice pack and a M1945 combat pack. Nice durable canvas. The metal hardware Id prob mod to plastic ones when tbey rust out. This pack is attached to a rear panel (bought separately) which in turn is attached to an Eagle IndustriesRRV rig.

Had one button missing but that was expected, easy fix so no worries. The item is super robust and durable. I would recommend getting some canvas wax to put a little more life in it!
